    TUTA NEWS BITESIZE
    AUGUST 2026
For those of you who come to the monthly meetings, you will
be familiar with the state of play as regards TUTA News. But
there are many of you who donโ€™t, so this is where we are at.
Following the untimely death of Geoff Bryant, we were
extremely lucky to have Leslie Caplan, a Malvern u3a
member, who came to one of our speaker meetings,
volunteer to step into the role of Editor. Following a series of
misfortunes, it has meant that only now are we in a position
to get TUTA NEWS back up and running. Watch this space.
The TSB bank pulled the plug on us in July. This has meant
opening a new bank account. An experience, for those
involved, never to be repeated. We are now with the Co-op.
Details have been circulated to Group Leaders and Alan our
Membership Secretary has also sent out details on where to
pay the up-and-coming membership fees. Further discussion
will take place at the next Group Leaders Meeting on
    September 9th.
We produced a publicity leaflet a few months ago. This has
proved to be very successful. Itโ€™s an A5 full colour production
which can be given out at exhibitions, gigs etc, anywhere in
fact it would be practical to advertise what we offer to those
who may consider joining u3a. Unlike the ones produced
centrally, this is u3a Tewkesbury and District specific. Another
500 have been printed and will be available from Mike
    Barrett.
    Forthcoming Speakers

Our own Ken Whittaker tells us about life at sea, with specific
information about sailing to South Georgia

that done โ€˜em (rumour has it he wasnโ€™t a bystander.)

    Science and Technology (Richard)
    12th October
    Scrabble (Val)
    9th November (Open Meeting)

    Critical Vacancies
Speakers Secretary by the date of the AGM
Mike Jones has already arranged speakers for the first part of
2027, so there will be a smooth transitionโ€ฆas I said at the last
speakerโ€™s meeting, no replacement for Mike, no more
    meetingsโ€ฆ.simplesssss.
    Business Secretary
Elizabeth Peche has given notice that she will be leaving this
post at the end of the year. A lot of you will know Elizabeth is
heavily involved with Tewkesbury Access Forum, a job which
is growing and demanding more of her time. Therefore,
regrettably she canโ€™t do both and we are the losers.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Mike and
Elizabeth for their hard work and support, whilst they have
    been on the Committee.
Please contact me or any member of the Committee for
    further information
    Ian McHardie-Jones Chair

  • Committee Posts

Our U3A depends on our committee, and by our constitution, officers are not able to serve more than 5 years.

We currently need a publicity officer and an editor for our newsletter.

Upcoming vacancies, in line with the 5 year rule, will be Events offices and our Webmaster.

We always need people to come forward early so that training could be given to for an easy transfer when the time comes.

Please please aproach any commitee member if you feel you can help our vibrant and friendly U3A conitinue into 2026.
