French – Building on Basics

A few keen learners started the class in September 2021 as planned, before Covid-19 took over our lives, but we soon had to give up.

We started again in September 2022, on Friday morning at 10.15, lasting an hour and thirty minutes, with a coffee break. It is a class for false beginners, i.e. people who have a little knowledge of the language. The emphasis is on speaking and understanding oral French.

We have now moved into a class called “Building on Basics”, at the Methodist Church, at the Cross in Tewkesbury, but our direct entrance into the class room is at the back, in Swillgate, clearly signposted. We will book 6 classes at a time, payable all 6 in advance, depending on the number of students who are going to share the cost as per the U3A rules.

The first bloc will cover: 2nd October, 16th and 23rd October, 6th, 13th, and 20th November. We will then decide on the next 6 classes depending on students’ availabilities. There is potentially 3 or 4 more lessons to have before Christmas and the rest in January, and we will go on following that pattern. This is to avoid having too expensive fees if there are not many students. I am hoping to limit the fee to £4.00 per week, i.e. £24 per bloc of 6.

We are doing Facon de Parler 2; 4th edition, Student’s Book, and we also have the Activity Book for homework. The U3A has bought a few copies of the Student’s Book, so they can lend them to students, or you can buy your own copy if you prefer, to write in it, for example.
